Lyons and Bord-Louviers forests
The Lyons forest is one of the finest beech woods in France: cathedral aisles, fern clearings, slender beeches that filter the light. To the south, the Bord-Louviers forest extends the massif to the Eure. Marked crossroads, ponds and forest paths follow each other, perfect for an afternoon walk, a picnic on a stump or simply a true shared silence.
Along the Risle and the Eure
The Risle crosses the west of the department, from Rugles to Pont-Audemer, brushing past old mills and fine abbeys such as Le Bec-Hellouin. The Eure valley offers a more open landscape, with Pacy-sur-Eure and its wash-houses. You walk along the water, on foot, by bike or by canoe depending on the season. A gentle setting punctuated by village terrace breaks.
Harcourt and Beaumesnil castles
At the heart of the Eure, Harcourt Castle sits within a centuries-old wooded park, one of the oldest arboretums in France. A little further south, the sumptuous Beaumesnil, a Louis XIII castle, is nicknamed the little Norman Versailles. Towards the estuary, the Marais Vernier spreads its meadows and birds. On Lyad, members from the Eure share their favourite walks: it is up to you to find someone to extend them with.
